Sweet football memories

Haven't posted for such a long time, and as I was reading through the old posts, I realize how quickly and how much the kids have grown.  Panicked a bit, and decided to catch up a bit to record some stories while I still remember them!  What a lovely tapestry of memories God has woven for me!

Here's Daniel and me at a recent Lions XII game.  Won 3-1 vs Perak, putting us 4 points clear at the top of the Malaysia Super League.  Went with some old Law School friends, including one Liverpool nutter, just like me, and my Dad.  My friend's two sons came along as well, and talking to them, I realized how much they knew about the Liverpool lore - they even knew about the miracle of Istanbul - before they even had conscious memories.  So my friend must have indoctrinated them!  Whereas Daniel doesn't really know anything about Liverpool at all.

On a bit of a sober note, it's a reminder to spend much more quality time with him just to have fun and be a Dad.  It's not just about the Liverpool lore of course, it's what I'm passing down to him as memories of being a beloved son.  What with my work, and his schoolwork, and our own personal downtime (him with his games and me with my music/books) it's easy to let this sort of thing slip.  Sort of like the memories of 2009-2013 that this blog has missed!!

So, time for me to catch him up on this family's proud Liverpool tradition :P  After all, this is a family whose Mommy and Daddy have stood on the Kop on a European night, with the best of the Kopites in full cheer.  As I said in my Facebook post at the time:

3-1 on the night, but still out of Europe, sad. Standing on the Kop, singing like mad, heads never going down, Awesome. Wife standing beside me in zero degree weather, grave smile on her face, PRICELESS. Happy birthday Lyn, best wife a man could have :)

Oh Lyn, who I have unsuccessfully tried to get interested in Liverpool for the last 13 years of marriage, but still loves me enough to go all the way up to Liverpool to watch a winter game in zero degrees, put up with crazy Kopites screaming and pounding her on the back with every goal, and getting half lost after the game because the buses stopped.  And all on her BIRTHDAY.  What did I ever do to deserve you :)
