Shuffling the deck
Hi everyone
OK, our arrangement of having weekly prayer meetings is just not working, so it's time to reinvent the paradigm.
I suggest that we focus on two main objectives:
(a) establishing a SUSTAINABLE Christian support network; and
(b) providing regular platforms for workplace EVANGELISM.
Sustainability
The evidence shows us that the weekly meeting has not been sustainable, so let's try this. For the foreseeable future, we will cancel the weekly meeting. In lieu of the weekly meeting, what we will do is organise a MONTHLY sharing on Christian living (preferably with a focus on the workplace) by one of us on a ROTATIONAL basis. This will reduce the burden of having to turn up every week, while providing for rotation of responsibility among the Christian community in the office. Hopefully we can institutionalise this, so that we evolve into a real community and establish a deeper sense of ownership, rather than relying on 1-2 persons, which would cause the whole arrangement to collapse as soon as those 1-2 persons leave or get tired/bored/kidnapped. I believe (in HR parlance) this will facilitate empowerment, succession planning and the building of institutional knowledge :)
Evangelism
Each of us has an individual responsibility towards our colleagues and friends. Though we can encourage each other, no one can or should police this, so we won't. But the pooling of resources can help both in terms of mutual encouragement and in actual hands and feet, especially when it comes to providing platforms to facilitate workplace evangelism. So I propose:
(a) bi-annual group activities e.g. Christmas gathering + 1 other - maybe Easter; and
(b) annual participation in some CSR type thing connected with our office.
We have already done this in 2007 with some degree of success, so this shouldn't be a huge issue.
On my own part, I'll try make arrangements to meet for lunch with groups of people, just so I get to know you, and maybe we can share our thoughts on how to be more effective.
Now comes the most important part where the rubber hits the road - I need a volunteer to start the first round of sharings. I suggest we set it for the LAST Thursday of each month. Let me know by end of the week, and I'll line you up. Just think, we only need 12 people to agree, and we're all set for 2008!
I'll be very happy to hear other suggestions as well, as any or all of the above might possibly be complete nonsense!
